What it is
Starting January 1, 2026, Nevada has implemented new safety regulations for inflatable devices, such as bounce houses and water slides, under Assembly Bill 198, also known as “Lizzy’s Law.” This law was introduced following a tragic incident in 2019.
| Requirement | Details |
| Licensing | Operators must obtain proper state and local business licenses. This includes the state of Nevada, County, and local city. |
| Insurance | A minimum liability insurance of $1 million is required for businesses operating inflatables. |
| Safety Inspections | Regular inspections of inflatable devices must be conducted and documented in a logbook. |
| Wind Monitoring | Operators must monitor wind speeds and cease operations if winds exceed 15 mph. If there is not an operator provided by the rental company, you by default are the operator. |
| Signage | 2’x2’ Sign containing “Operators Warning”. |
| Anchoring | Devices must be properly anchored using stakes of 18” minimum OR weights of at least 75 pounds on each and every attachment point. |
| Training | Operators must be trained in the safe operation of inflatable devices. |
Purpose of the Law
The law aims to enhance safety standards for inflatable devices to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of children using these attractions. It emphasizes the importance of proper operation and monitoring conditions to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
What you need to know
Like most laws, the intent is good. However, the state and local jurisdictions will not be proactive in stopping small businesses from renting inflatables if they do not comply with the laws. So, it becomes your responsibility to ask the right questions to determine if the company you want to rent from is compliant with Lizzy’s Law. The difference in price between non-compliant and compliant companies can be substantial. At The Fun Ones, the safety of kids using inflatables is of the utmost importance and we comply with all the safety requirements. When you rent from us, you can rest assure things will be done the right way. When installation and operations of inflatables are done correctly, it is very rare any accidents happen.
